Biography

William Richard Gray was born in South Bend, Indiana on March 10, 1945 to George and Gladys (Fox) Gray. Bill graduated from St. Joseph Grade School in 1959 and John Adams High School in 1963 in South Bend. He then attended Evansville College for two years before joining the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1969. After returning from deployment in the military, he attend Indiana Vocational Technical College where he earned an Associate degree in Engineering. Bill then returned to the University of Evansville in Indiana and then MacMurray College in Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

Bill was joined in marriage with Linda R. (Braden) Gray on January 20th of 1968 in Evansville, Indiana. They were married for nearly 52 years before Linda’s death on January 2, 2020 from cancer. They have three children, Matthew, Edward, and Jonathan, and seven grandchildren. Bill was employed in the Industrial Engineering and Facilities Maintenance and Management field until retirement as the Facilities Manager for BorgWarner Automotive Cooling Systems in 2009. Most recently, he has volunteered his time with several local causes including visiting military veterans in the hospital.

Masonic History

William R. Gray was raised to the Sublime degree of a Master Mason in Mishawaka Lodge #130 F&AM in May of 1986. He has served his Lodge in the officers’ line nearly every year from 1992 till 2018 which includes Treasurer from 1994 to 1999 and again beginning in 2020, Secretary from 2000 to 2002 and 2010 to 2014. He served as Worshipful Master during 2013 and 2015.

In the year 1989 Bill became a 32 degree member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend in South Bend, Indiana.

Bill was exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Mishawaka Chapter #83 in 2002 and served as High Priest during 2011. He was greeted a Cryptic Mason in South Bend Council #82 in 2009 and served as Ill. Master of Council in 2015. He became a Knight Templar in South Bend Commandery #13 in 2010 and served as Commander for the year 2016.

Bill became a member of Yeoman of York, Preceptory #5 in March of 2011, a member of the AMD (Allied Masonic Degrees) in Pokagon Council #147 in July 2014, and served as President of the Actual Past Masters Association of St. Joseph County for the year of 2015.

Additionally, Bill served as Royal Arch Deputy of District B of Royal Arch Masons of the State of Indiana for the year 2015-2016 and a Trustee of Mishawaka Lodge #130 for the years of 2016 thru 2018. He was elected to membership in the Knights of the York Cross of Honour (KYCH) in March of 2017 and installed a member of KYCH in May 2017. He has served as an officer of Preceptory # 5 Yeomen of York since the year 2017 and Director General in 2019 & 2020. He is currently serving as the Grand Historian for the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of the State of Indiana.
